This morning I had a maternity shoot with Mandy and her husband and there two sweet pups! The weather ended up being perfect for us even though it was threatening rain all weekend.

Have you ever tried to get two dogs to look at you at the same time for a picture ;)

Happy Halloween!

We are busy carving pumpkins, cutting out ghosts and trying on costumes today! Tomorrow the kids will go off trick of treating. But in our house we do it a bit differently. Instead of collecting candy for themselves, they collect candy for the sugar sprite. After they get home they get to choose a few pieces of candy for themselves and then the rest goes into a bowl and is left out for the Sugar Sprite to come and get. In return she leaves each child a little toy. I started this tradition when the boys first started trick or treating because I couldn’t stand the idea of them eating all that candy! It works out great and they just love trying to get as much candy as they can for the sprite!!

The look!

October 23, 2009

I am gathering pictures I love of all my children to print on canvas and hang in the hallway. I have so many pictures of Jayden and Gabbi because they are both naturals in front of the camera. My oldest son Ryan however is not (he gets that from me). When he sees the camera he makes the funniest face in an attempt to smile. Reminds me of this look :-D

The other day I took Ryan outside, just him and I, and I spent some time waiting to catch him off guard, waiting for the look. The natural, soulful look that I love to catch and haven’t been able to with him. I tried all my tricks. You see my favourite type of portrait is when the person isn’t smiling. Don’t get me wrong. I love smiles too, but when I am looking for a portrait, especially of my own children, I want no smiles. Because that way the eyes are wide open, you can really see them. So after a while I got it!! I was so happy as soon as I looked at the LCD and saw those eyes and that look!!!

Every time I finish a photo session I walk away with one image that stands out in my mind. One that I know is going to be gorgeous and special. Today it’s this one…

The light is gorgeous, Preston’s face is too adorable!! But more then that is the love I can feel from Cara. That really stood out for me today. That is what I love so much about photographing families. The interaction and the love they show each other. It is so obvious in this picture how Cara feels about her son!

This is Preston. I have a shoot scheduled with him and his beautiful mom Cara in June. But I met with them today and took this shot of him. I couldn’t help myself those eyes are just so gorgeous!
