We are busy carving pumpkins, cutting out ghosts and trying on costumes today! Tomorrow the kids will go off trick of treating. But in our house we do it a bit differently. Instead of collecting candy for themselves, they collect candy for the sugar sprite. After they get home they get to choose a few pieces of candy for themselves and then the rest goes into a bowl and is left out for the Sugar Sprite to come and get. In return she leaves each child a little toy. I started this tradition when the boys first started trick or treating because I couldn’t stand the idea of them eating all that candy! It works out great and they just love trying to get as much candy as they can for the sprite!!

Happy Halloween!
October 30, 2009Pic of the Month! {Toronto family photographer}
October 28, 2009I have been so behind with my “picture of the month” project so today I have two!
I just adore this first one. I love the sweet tiny baby feet and of course the tatoo’s!!!

and this one melts my heart!!

The look!
October 23, 2009I am gathering pictures I love of all my children to print on canvas and hang in the hallway. I have so many pictures of Jayden and Gabbi because they are both naturals in front of the camera. My oldest son Ryan however is not (he gets that from me). When he sees the camera he makes the funniest face in an attempt to smile. Reminds me of this look
The other day I took Ryan outside, just him and I, and I spent some time waiting to catch him off guard, waiting for the look. The natural, soulful look that I love to catch and haven’t been able to with him. I tried all my tricks. You see my favourite type of portrait is when the person isn’t smiling. Don’t get me wrong. I love smiles too, but when I am looking for a portrait, especially of my own children, I want no smiles. Because that way the eyes are wide open, you can really see them. So after a while I got it!! I was so happy as soon as I looked at the LCD and saw those eyes and that look!!!

Happy Friday my friends!!
I love pink!!
October 22, 2009
I didn’t even realize I had a girly side until Gabbi came into my life. I was definitely a tomboy growing up. I didn’t really play with dolls or wear dresses. But when Gabbi came home (and after having three boys), I was ready for a little pink!! I really thought that Gabbi would be a tomboy too since she has three older brothers but she is the farthest thing from a tomboy I have ever seen. She is ultra feminine and loves all things girly. She loves the colour pink and shoes and dolls! I found out about this musical the other day from a fellow photographer and I am taking Gabbi in November. She loves the book and I’m sure will love the musical too! So in celebration of pink Gabbi had a very girly birthday yesterday. She got a pink teddy bear, a pink striped dress, a pink sweater and a pink book about fairies, a bouquet of pink Gerber daisy’s and to finish off the day… pink cupcakes!

Happy Birthday my beautiful girl!
October 21, 2009My girl turned 3 today!! I can’t believe how fast the time has gone!

Gabbi is one of the sweetest little souls. With just the right amount of attitude!

She is so funny! She has us all laughing really hard at least once every day!

And we get lost in her eyes.. her gorgeous deep eyes!

What a month!
October 19, 2009My photographer friends told me that the fall would be busy but somehow I didn’t believe them. Ha that’ll show me! Not only have I been busy with sessions but 3 of my 4 children have fall birthdays and let us not forget about Christmas, lol. This past weekend I had 3 photo shoots. Thank goodness I am super fast at editing because I was able to get all three galleries up by Sunday night. Normally I wouldn’t work that hard to get them up, but today Mike leaves for Dallas, tomorrow Zander has an appointment with an eye specialist, Wednesday is Gabbi’s 3rd birthday and this weekend we have the kids cousins birthday party on Saturday and Gabbi’s birthday party on Sunday. Whew… I am tired just thinking about it
I actually like to keep busy though and I love my job so it’s all good!I am taking the month of December off to get ready for Christmas and to go over my 2010 pricing for both portraits and weddings. I will be booking a limited number of weddings each year. I want to make sure I can give each wedding the time and attention it deserves.
Here are a couple more shots from my newborn session on Sunday with sweet baby Lyla.

Lyla’s beautiful sister Mia was so proud to be a big sister

I bought this teak chair on Friday. Lyla only posed for a minute on it because she much preferred to be in someone’s arms. I don’t blame her. There were lots of arms to snuggle her!

Thanks Lyla for being such a sweet girl! and thank you Rob, Andrea and Mia for letting me spend the afternoon with you!

Random Thursday
October 15, 2009I used to be a avid blog writer. I used to write almost every day. But these past few months seem to have flown by and I have woefully neglected this space. I really want to make a commitment to write more here but I also don’t want to be unrealistic. My fall has been a whirlwind of photo shoots, kids activities, birthday parties, new puppy adventures, Mike’s business trips, editing ect… This weekend I have 3 photo shoots! Not that I am complaining. I just love my job! I love that I get to be with my kids while editing photo’s. I love that Mike is home with them while I am at shoots. I love interacting with families, seeing the love a newly engaged couple or holding a sweet newborn baby!
So besides my work keeping me busy, my fall has been a bit different this year because instead of homeschooling all my kids like I have in the past, I had two start school. Jayden started grade 3 and Zander started grade 1. Ryan is 9 and still homeschooling and Gabbi is only 3. Having the two in school has been a big adjustment for everyone and I won’t lie when I say I miss them SOOOO much! But they are enjoying school so I put on my happy face every morning and wave them good-bye
I posted a few weeks ago about our newest addition, Gracie aka the best puppy in the world!! Seriously. She is so good. She is 3 1/2 months old and completely house broken. She can sit and give a paw, she is calm, she is just darling. I think we all fell in love with her the second we laid eyes on her and we are so happy that fate brought her into our family.

On Sunday afternoon I am so happy to be photographing a brand new sweet baby girl! I am going shopping today to purchase something for the shoot. If it works out you will see what I am talking about in the sneak peeks!
